Damaged nails, a common problem with many causes
Many people are embarrassed by the look of their nails and a common solution to the problem is to cover with nail polish or with covering shoes.
Damaged nails is a common problem with many causes;
- Too much or too little moisture is the most common cause of brittle and fragile nails. When the nails get wet, they swell. When they dry, they shrink. If your hands are in water a lot this constant change can dry the nails out and make them soft and easy to peel.
- Repeating gel manicures, acrylic nails and nail art causes significant brittleness, discolourations, weakness, and thinning.
- As you get older, your nails may dry out and grow more slowly. Toenails usually get thicker and harder, while fingernails get thinner and easier to break.
Typical symptoms of damaged nails are thickened nails, ridges, discolourations, dry, brittle and cracking nails.
